Basic Home Defense Fundamentals
Have a plan before you ever need one.
Home defense isn't a shooting problem. It's a decision problem with a shooting tool. This class spends as much time on layout, lighting, family communication, and legal aftermath as it does on the trigger. You'll learn how to set up your home so the odds favor you, what to do in the moments between the noise downstairs and the call to 911, and how to communicate with family in the dark without ever taking your eyes off a threat.
Who it's for
Homeowners and renters who keep a firearm for protection and want to use it responsibly under stress.
What You'll Learn
By the end of this class, you will…
Map your own home for defensive position, fields of view, and family safe zones
Build a family communication plan that works at 2 AM in the dark
Choose appropriate ammunition for indoor use (over-penetration matters)
Identify a threat under stress before pressing the trigger
Make the 911 call that protects you legally
Move and shoot at realistic in-home distances
Curriculum
What we cover, step by step.
01
Layout + Position
Bring your floor plan. We mark sight lines, sound corridors, and the "fight here, not there" positions in your own house.
02
Lighting + Equipment
Weapon lights, flashlights, motion sensors, smart-home alerts. What actually works at 0300.
03
Family Communication
Code words, gathering points, who calls 911, what to say. Practiced as a drill until it is automatic.
04
Decision Making Under Stress
Use-of-force law refresher, threat identification, the difference between intruder and family member at 2 AM.
05
Live Fire — Realistic Drills
In-home distances (3–7 yards), positional shooting (kneeling behind cover), shoot/no-shoot decision targets.
06
After the Shot
The 911 call, what to do until police arrive, what to say (and not say). The legal and emotional aftermath.
