Use of Force Fundamentals
Know the law before you ever have to use it.
The single most important class for anyone who carries a firearm — and almost nobody takes it. The trigger pull is the easy part. The next four years of your life if you make the wrong call? That's the part this class prepares you for. Three hours in the classroom covering Florida self-defense law (F.S. 776, F.S. 790), de-escalation, the difference between justified and merely legal, what to do (and not do) in the first 60 seconds after an incident, and the realities of trial, civil liability, and the mental aftermath. No live fire. All decisions.
Who it's for
Anyone who carries or keeps a firearm for defense and wants to understand the legal line.
What You'll Learn
By the end of this class, you will…
Recite the three elements of justified use of deadly force in Florida
Identify scenarios where force is legal vs. illegal vs. merely unwise
Apply Florida’s "stand your ground" doctrine correctly under F.S. 776.012
De-escalate a confrontation before force is necessary
Make the right statements (and silence) in the first 60 seconds after an incident
Understand the realistic legal, financial, and mental costs of a defensive shooting
Curriculum
What we cover, step by step.
01
Florida Self-Defense Law
F.S. 776.012 (justifiable use of force), F.S. 776.013 (home defense / castle doctrine), F.S. 790.06 (carry limits). Real case examples.
02
Elements of Justified Force
Reasonable belief, imminent harm, proportionality. Where each element fails in real Florida cases.
03
De-Escalation
Posture, distance, voice, exit. The conflicts you can avoid are the ones you do not have to win.
04
The First 60 Seconds
What to say to 911. What to do with the firearm. What to tell responding officers. What to write down. What NOT to say.
05
Aftermath
Arrest, charging, trial, civil liability. Mental health resources. The "you won the gunfight, now what" reality.
